Mumblings of a clumsy bibliophile
I love monkeys. That’s probably the most important thing you need to know about me, but I guess some of you will need a titch more to go on. I normally have a standard shpeel to sell myself, but I figure I’ll wing it, not like the drought on LJ is giving you much to choose from anyway. I have a permanent account. I plan on being here awhile. I love FB and I’m sure other sites will come and go, but I can always come to my LJ and find a sense of myself and community that can’t be found elsewhere.

I’ll be 30 in a couple months and have no qualms about aging. I’ve always been an old soul. Doris Day is my home girl; I should have been born in the ‘50’s. I devour books by the armful, I can’t learn enough about the Holocaust, and AIDS research/education is the cause I feel most connected to. I’m Catholic but more spiritual than anything; I believe in things that cannot be easily explained. I have my BS in Animal Science from an ivy league school, but was given a far better education at a small state school where I received my AS in Veterinary Technology. I’m considering a Masters in Medical Technology, specializing in Hematology with a minor in Education. I work at a renowned vet school in the ICU. Lately we have had a string of horribly sad cases, but those small miracles get me through the days and I love what I do. My partner and I bought our first home in December and plan on starting a family in the coming months. I’m sure there will be random *squeeness* baby posts from time to time, but I still intend to use this as my personal space; I have no intention of creating a mommy blog. I also write tales of our “don’t-eat-the-paste special” animals, so add away if you love the antics of dogs who need helmets and bubble wrap armor.

I’m a nerd and very proud of it. I live to be silly. I love to be girly. I can shake my ass When nobody is home, I clean the house in 4” candy apple red Mary-Janes while singing ( poorly) at the top of my lungs. I’m a curvy girl with rockin’ fashion sense. I dig body mods. I love the theatre, but not so much drama. I love to draw and craft, but I’m mediocre, at best. Wit is so sexy. I’m compulsively organized, no seriously, don’t move my stuff. I walk and talk in my sleep and journal about my nighttime exploits. I swear a fucking lot. I love volunteer work. I tend to be a bit random. When I was little and watched Stephen King’s “It,” I thought my parents were going to turn into clowns and kill me, for like…2 years. Feet are gross. I’m blind in one eye. I can shake my eyeballs. I have a scar on my cheek from a knife-fight with my gang, or a dog bite, I can’t remember which. 13 is my lucky number. Vinegar is the best smell/taste ever. My accent is Canadian valley girl, though I only grew up on the Canadian border in NY. I’m a Libra, we don’t make decisions. Please don’t make us make decisions! I miss my Gram, she was my favorite person in the world. I’m painfully shy, but fake being a people person very well. I’m a terrific actress.

Friend me if: you don’t write a novel for each post (My attention span is not conducive to reading more than a paragraph or two for a typical post.), you are open-minded, your journal is more than a daily update of your twitter feed, you can interpret sarcasm, you also randomly quote Eddie Izzard in conversation, you comment occasionally to let me know you still exist out in your little corner of the world, you know the difference between there, their, and they’re, your journal is not a toxic pond of negativity, and you understand my fear of spiders and will put any pictures behind a cut that says in large, bold font “Heather, don’t look under here.”

I just made my first LJ acquaintance in ‘real life’ last week, after knowing her for several years. It was a very positive experience. Not that I want to meet all the friends on my list, but these are the kinds of connections I’m looking for. I don’t want to be a casual observer, I want to know you and share the mundane and exciting details of your life. I’m certainly amicable to trying on a friendship and seeing if we mesh and parting ways if we don’t jive.

Later days.
